Speaking on Friday at the Supreme Court shortly after being sworn in by Chief Justice David Maraga, Chebukati further promised to head an impartial commission that will oversee credible polls.

"I pledge to serve with integrity and without discrimination. I accept my appointment with humility and gratitude," the Star quoted Chebukati.

"Fellow Kenyans, your vote counts. Your vote at the ballot can change things. To all of you who sent me good will messages, I say thank you very much. I am here to serve my country," he added.

Chebukati was appointed alongside six commissioners by President Uhuru Kenyatta to head the electoral body following the exit of the Isaack Hassan-led team.

The new commissioners include: Margaret Wanjala Mwachanya, Consolata Nkatha, Abdi Guliye, Paul Kurgat, Roselyn Akombe and Boya Molu.
