It has emerged that the letter circulating on social media purporting that IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati has resigned is fake.
Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission(IEBC) manager in charge of communications Tabitha Mutemi said the letter is not authentic.
The letter which bears the commission’s logo, addressed to President Uhuru Kenyatta and seen as signed by Chebukati explains reasons for his resignation.
The main reason mentioned is of external hands and forces which have been fueling wrangles within the commission making it hard for the commissioners to agree on various matters.
Ms Mutemi has twitted on the commission's official twitter account stating that the alleged letter originated from unverified accounts and has been circulating on Twitter.
The embattled electoral commission’s boss has been warding pressure to exit after three commissioners resigned.
