The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has now welcomed the office of the Director of Public Prosecution to conduct investigations into suspected breach of Electoral Offenses Act among its staff.
Welcoming Friday’s ruling by the Supreme Court, IEBC chair Wafula Chebukati said there was an urgent need to clean its house in a bid to avert possibilities of violation of the law even as the body prepares for a second presidential poll.
“The commission invites the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution to urgently and expeditiously investigate and prosecute any of our staff that may have been involved in violation of the Election Offenses Act”, Mr Chebukati said in a statement.
He noted further that the IEBC Commissioners only took office six months to the poll having made no changes to the Secretariat at its Anniversary Towers offices.
“IEBC intends to make internal changes to our personnel and processes as we prepare for the fresh presidential election in sixty days,” Mr Chebukati said.
