IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati has said the fresh presidential election will go on as scheduled, despite the collapsed meeting between Nasa, Jubilee and the commission.

Speaking at a press conference at the Bomas of Kenya on Thursday, Chebukati said IEBC will continue to engage the opposition and ruling party ahead of October 26 election.

“I want to assure the country that we will have a fresh presidential election on 26th October. We shall not get tired of engaging the candidates in preparing for the fresh elections,” he said.

On the issue of electoral laws amendments proposed by Jubilee, the IEBC chief said they are waiting for the bill from Parliament before making comments.

“I am hoping that whatever changes Parliament makes should not affect what we are already doing as a commission,” he said.

Nasa leaders stormed out of a meeting chaired by Chebukati at the Bomas of Kenya.

Siaya Senator James Orengo said, “This legislation is being driven through parliament at supersonic speeds. By the end of the day, we may have a bill ready for assent, we were left with no alternative but to walk out of this meeting.. Jubilee has reached a level where they feel they can change the Constitution through the back door."

Among the proposed changes is a complementary transmission system that is manual.

The manually transmitted results will have more weight and will be considered final.

The laws also dis empower the IEBC chairman, proposing that any commissioner be able to take charge of meetings and lowering the quorum to three.
