This is after his relation with the opposition leader Raila Odinga was questioned.

Chebukati said he did vie for Member of Parliament for Saboti Constituency on an ODM ticket but said that prior to his nomination at the IEBC he resigned as a member of the ODM party.

“I am currently not a member of any political party,” said Chebukati.

Chebukati lost to PNU’s Eugene Wamalwa and vowed never to vie after he witnessed several cases of electoral malpractice.

“I last met the ODM leader in 2007, when he came to Saboti during the 2007 general election campaigns with the other Pentagon Members. They came, they campaigned and left and that is the last time I interacted with Odinga, I have not met him up to now and that is the position,” said Chebukati.

Chebukati assured the committee that if his nomination is approved, his immediate goal will be to lead the IEBC to conduct a free, fair and credible 2017 election.
