Speaking in Machakos on Wednesday, Chebukati said that those doubting his leadership and calling for his resignation are wasting time.

The embattle IEBC boss stated that Kenyans have faith in his leadership and that he wants to lay the ground for credible 2022 polls.

“I will not bow to pressure from politician's who are demanding for my resignation because Kenyans are the ones who gave me this job,” he said as quoted by a local daily.

Chebukati said that though the resignation of several IEBC commissioners was a blow, he will remain to ensure that the electoral agency operations are not halted.

The IEBC boss asked Kenyans to stand with the remaining commissioner's and suggest on ways the commission should prepare for credible 2022 polls.

At the same time, Chebukati defended the credibility of the 2022 general election.

He said that the commission conducted the election with the confines of the law contrary to what some politicians have been speculating.

Pressure has been mounting on Chebukati quit office on grounds that he has failed to provide leadership at the polls agency.

Last month, three commissioner’s Consolata Maina Nkatha, Marget Mwachanya, and Paul Kurgat quit their jobs.

They accused Chebukati of failing to lead the commission.

The three commissioners quit days after Chebukati send IEBC CEO Ezra Chiloba on compulsory leave over gender-related issues.

Last year before the October 26 repeat polls, Roslyn AKombe, a commissioner quit office claiming that the polls agency had been compromised and could not guarantee credible election.
