Water Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa has told IEBC boss Wafula Chebukati to remain firm and oversee the repeat presidential election set for October 26.

Speaking during a Jubilee campaign rally in Bungoma County on Thursday, Wamalwa said Chebukati should know that the whole country is watching him and, therefore, should inspire Kenyans with confidence during this electioneering period.

"Chebukati, you are under a lot of pressure but that should not make you run and issue statements that will cause more tension. Be firm and ensure the country crosses the election line," Wamalwa said.

The CS's remarks comes a day after Chebukati set conditions that must be fulfilled before he can continue serving in his position at the electoral agency.

He publicly admitted that divisions and interference from political class were harming the IEBC's operations.

"I have made several attempts to make critical changes but all my motions have been defeated by the majority of commissioners. Under such conditions, it is difficult to guarantee free, fair and credible elections," Chebukati said on Wednesday.

The IEBC boss has also been under pressure from the Opposition alliance, NASA, to quit following the resignation of Commissioner Roselyne Akombe.

"Chebukati you have made it clear that they (commissioners) have made it impossible for you to conduct credible elections, then reconsider your position," NASA co-principal Moses Wetang'ula told the IEBC chairman.
