We are ready for by-election says Chebukati
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is ready to conduct fresh polls for the nullified elections.
According to chairman Wafula Chebukati they will ensure that the elections are conducted in a free and fair manner.
"446 petitions for the six elective positions were filled in various courts and am I as I am talking 325 have been heard and determined," said the IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati after paying a courtesy call to Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago.
"Elections that were nullified include that of 5 governors, 5 members of parliament and 8 MCA's while the rest were upheld. We are ready to conduct fresh elections in the affected constituencies and Counties," added Wafula Chebukati.
He, however, revealed that the process of reviewing boundaries across the country will start soon and end by 2021.
"We will move across the country to get peoples view before reviewing any boundary. We have set aside sh 80 billion on the same," noted the IEBC chairman.
He applauded Uasin Gishu for conducting a peaceful and orderly poll in last August and October general and presidential elections.
"Uasin Gishu is the only county with a record of no filed petition in all the seats. This definitely is a result of the organized systems put in place by all the aspirants before, during and after the polls," said the Chair.
He further lauded the County Boss for the unique peace accord agreement signed prior the polls, adding that the committee resulted in a successful process.
