The much anticipated 2022 elections may after all not take place due to timeline constraints, IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati has said.

According to Chebukati, the continued lack of quorum within the commission is making it difficult for them to make key decisions.

While appearing before Constitutional Implementation Oversight Committee on Tuesday, Wafula said the commission is unable to make recommendations on boundary review.

Constitutionally, at least five commissioners must sit and discuss critical issues before making decisions.

But following resignation of Paul Kurgat, Margaret Mwachanya and  Consolata Nkatha, which was preceded by Roselyn Akombe's exit, the commissioner remained with only three officers.

While the commission has made progress on boundary review, it is however stuck whether to use 2009 or 2019 population census.

Should the commission fail to review the boundaries within 8 years, this means preparations for 2022 elections will be substantially delayed.
