The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chair Wafula Chebukati has challenged the media to cover polls fairly and accurately as the country gears up for the general elections.

Speaking on Wednesday as the world marked World Press Freedom Day, Chebukati further acknowledged the significance of the media in delivery of free, fair and credible polls.

"On this World Press Freedom Day, we are reminded of the important role the media play and this year's theme aptly captures the message of peace as we approach the elections," he said.

"A free and fair election is not only about the freedom to vote and the knowledge of how to cast a vote, but also about a participatory process where voters engage in public debate and have adequate information about political parties, policies...to make informed choices," he added.

Chebukati also pledged IEBC's commitment to make available critical and important information about polls to the media.
