Outgoing East African Legislative Assembly member Peter Mathuki now wants IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati to return to Supreme Court to seek for extension of presidential repeat polls.
Already, IEBC has gazetted October 26th for the poll, despite internal feuds within the commission and opposition leader Raila Odinga’s withdrawal.
But Mathuki says, should the polls be conducted, Kenya could plunge into chaos which may lead to deaths in various parts of the country.
“The environment is not good for elections and should we defy this situation, Kenya my plunger into endless war.
“Chebukati should now run to Supreme Court and seek extension of the date. He can persuade the court to admit his request given the environment and also plead for formation of transitional government for 90 days,” he said.
While Jubilee party has maintained elections will go on as planned, NASA on its part has vowed to ensure no elections take place.
Although he maintains that the country is ready for polls, Chebukati admitted that he may not be able to deliver free and fair polls, adding that a number of commissioners were frustrating his job.
Having cancelled August 8th outcome, Supreme Court gave the commission 60 days to conduct fresh poll, a move which Mathuki says can be reconsidered despite constitutional ultimatums should Chebukati make a plea of that nature in Supreme Court.
