IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati became the focus of attention on Wednesday Supreme Court hearing of the presidential petition.
Words by Chebukati were used against him in the apex court.
The lawyers representing petitioners, Julie Soweto, Njonjo Mue and Khelef Khalifa said Chebukati pronouncement after the resignation of Commissioner Roselyn Akombe that he could not guarantee a free, fair and credible repeat poll should not be overlooked.
“The Chairperson is admitting publicly to Kenyans that the Commission is not working independently and of course the question we should ask is who is he blaming? Who is it that is not allowing the Commission to work independently?” Soweto posed to the court.
However, Soweto was confronted by Justice JB Ojwang who questioned why she introduced the subject of Akombe resignation given that it was not part of the affidavits submitted.
