The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Chairman Wafula Chebukati has promised Kenyans that his commission is ready to deliver a free and fair election.
Speaking on the eve of the election at the Bomas of Kenya, Chebukati said his team is ready and prepared, and that Kenyans should not be worried of anything that can raise questions on the final results.
The chairman also revealed hotline numbers on which Kenyans can report any malpractice at polling stations.
“We want to assure that we are committed to everyone and to this country, that it gets what it deserves - free, fair, credible, and transparent elections. We are confident that the elections will be credible,” said Chebukati.
Chebukati’s assurances come amid pressure from different quarters on claims of rigging, with the opposition in particular putting the commission to task on numerous occasions to promise Kenyans free and fair polls.
“The players finished preparing yesterday. As referees, we are prepared to give Kenyans a free, fair and credible elections, and that we say without any fear of contradiction. We are waiting for you and we shall be fair as the law of the land requires us to be. We are ready, we are fired, we are waiting for the players to come,” he added.
