The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission on Monday showed their support for the Supreme Court; after they upheld president Kenyatta’s win in the October 26 polls.
On the body’s official twitter, the chairman was a happy man after the court upheld Uhuru’s victory, bringing to an end a protracted election period that was characterized by great drama.
“The commission welcomes the determination by the supreme court in petition no 2 and 4 of 2017,” said the commission’s chairman Wafula Chebukati.
“the unanimous decision by the honorable court affirms our resolve and deliberate efforts to conduct free fair and credible elections. We wait for the reasoned judgment to inform our post-election evaluation that is about to commence; as well as initiatives focused on the developing our institution and enhancing electoral democracy,” it added.
The court unanimously agreed to uphold Kenyatta's win, which was challenged at the court by political activists.
The commission was time and again attacked by the NASA coalition, who accused them of being ill-prepared for the October 26 elections.
At one point, the chairman said he could not promise the country of a fair and free election exercise, owing to the divisions in the commissions’ leadership.
