A simple tweet from IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati on Thursday over voter turnout has elicited sharp reactions from among Kenyans.
With thousands of Kenyans having reportedly boycotted the presidential repeat poll, the electoral body has been thrown to difficulties in explaining the exact voter turnout.
Visibly, Chebukati failed to comprehensively respond to questions fielded from journalists at the Bomas with many people questioning his original 48 percent turnout update on his Twitter.
"Our team in the other table is working on the figures. As at now, I do not have the exact figure," said chebukati, when asked about his 6.5 million projected turnout.
He added:" About the tweet, that was then but our team is working on the figures now. We are going to have a meeting and give comprehensive report."
In his tweet, Chebukati reported that 6, 553,858 people had turned up for elections, a figure that contradicts the score of President Uhuru Kenyatta, who until Saturday, had scored over 7.4 Million.
To further cast doubt on the credibility of the commission, Kenyans have also questioned where DP William Ruto obtained 7.5 million figures of voter turnout during his interview with CNN.
The commission is struggling to built its image after the nullified August elections, with opposition leader Raila Odinga further claiming that only 4.5 million people turned up for controversial elections he had bolted out.
