Check for expiry dates before using any prescribed drugs or medication, Kisumu medic Dr Polycarp Koyanda has advised. The Port Florence Hospital Medical Officer noted that most drugs on the shelves of retail shops and chemists have reached their expiry dates.

Dr Koyanda noted that unsuspecting residents normally take expired drugs which end up complicating their health problems. Speaking at the medical facility in Kisumu on Friday, the medic appealed to residents to adapt a tendency of checking for the expiry dates of the drugs they are given or they have bought before administering them.

"It is very sad for us to continue losing patients to expired medicine. We have to shun this negligence and decide to be vigilant when it comes to the medicine that we take." Koyanda also asked the County Executive Committee member in-charge of Health and Health services, Dr Elizabeth Ogaja to put measures in place to counter check the drugs on the chemists’ shelves.

"If the County government takes this issue seriously then we can be sure that sanity will return in our hospitals amd chemists. Lives will also be saved through such measures."
