Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairman Wafula Chebukati is today expected to opposed the proposed Election Law amendments by the Jubilee Party.
The proposals, which President Uhuru Kenyata says will fix the irregularities and illegalities witnessed in the August polls, have also been opposed by opposition leaders and supporters.
Chebukati is expected to present its memorandum of opposition to the Joint Select Committee holding public hearings on the contentious changes.
Among the proposals is reduction of the powers of the IEBC chairman and of the Supreme Court to declare the winner in a presidential election.
The amendments also in case there is a problem with electronic transmission of results, the results in manual forms are to be used to declare the winner of elections.
Chebukati had indicated last week that the commission does not need new laws to conduct the repeat poll.
