Nakuru nominated senator Liz Chelule wants an audit done on all the projects commissioned by the Nakuru government during the 2013-2014 Financial Year.
Speaking to the press at Molo Town on Wednesday, Chelule said that an audit will paint a picture on how the government has utilised funds allocated to it.
She added that the audit will enable residents to gauge the performance of the county government during the 2014-2015 Fiscal Year.
“We want an audit done on all development projects that Nakuru county government has initiated so that we can be able to know whether allocated funds were utilised correctly,” she said.
Chelule noted that an audit will reveal the spending habits and also expose cases where taxpayer’s money could have been squandered.
The nominated senator asked the Governor Kinuthia’s government to put in place measures that will ensure transparency and accountability.
“County governments must account for every cent given to the by the national government and Nakuru is not an exemption,” she stated.
Chelule further asked the government seek the views of the public before passing the 2015-2016 budget.
