Chematich Location Chief David Rono has warned bar operators who sell alcohol to school-going children.
Speaking on Thursday at Chematich Shopping Centre, Kiptororo Ward, during a public baraza, Rono expressed concern over the higher rate of teens engaging in alcohol consumption.
“Any attendant or bar operator who sells alcohol to teens will be arrested and arraigned in court and charged of selling alcohol to teens,” said Rono,
Rono revealed that a number of teens have been spotted drinking in several bars.
“It is shocking that some bars attendants were selling beer to school going children who are on holiday,” said Rono.
The meeting comes in the wake of rising incidences of youth drinking at Chematich Shopping Center.
Parents have also complained over their children being involved in alcohol consumption .
The administrator said that selling of alcohol to under 18 is against law .
“Consumption of alcohol among school going children is prohibited and any one selling alcohol to students will be prosecuted,” notes Rono.
He said that he would keep vigil in all bars in the area to ensure no school going children drunk.
“Surveillance will be enhanced in all bars and those caught selling alcohol to teens will be rounded up and taken to police station,” added Rono .
