Chemelil Sugar Factory will now cut the cost spent on the electricity bill following a Sh 100 million power turbine that is set to be installed at the company's premises.

The power turbine was commissioned at the Chemelil Sugar Factory in Muhoroni Sub County by the Cabinet Secretary of Agriculture Felix Koskei.

This will relieve the factory of the 12 million electricity bill spent per month amid the uncountable challenges faced by Chemelil Company that includes failure to pay workers in time.

Chemelil Sugar Factory, according to CS Koskei has workers pay arrears that have accumulated for over three months now.

He said that the government is committed to ensuring that the sugar companies in the country better the lives of farmers.

He promised that to ensure that out of the 60 million workers pay arrears, he is going to ensure that 35 million is paid to the farmers from next week, directing Chemelil Sugar Company management to ensure that the remaining 45 million shillings be paid to the farmers in three months’ time.

On the other side, member of the parliament representing Nyando Fred Outa and Rose Nyando who the Kisumu County women representative jeered the Government for giving a raw deal to the sugar industries by failing to stop the illegal sugar importation.

Outa accused the Agriculture CS for sleeping on his job because he has failed to identify the sugar barons.

Nyamunga on her side challenged the County Government of Kisumu to rise up to take the devolved agriculture industries ti its custody.

Muhoroni MP also said that the government efforts to pump in a lot of money to the sugar industries in a piece-meal.

He instead urged the National Government to killing the illegal sugar importation to save the sugar industries from the verge of collapsing.
