Uasin Gishu deputy Governor Daniel Chemno on Monday launched an employee wellness week.

This, according to him, will see the government officials have a thorough health check which will coincide with the World Aids Day which was marked on Tuesday.

The five-day programme will run through to Friday.

Chemno said since most jobs require physical fitness, it was of importance that the exercise be carried out.

"Quality is achieved when you are mentally and physically fit," said the deputy Governor.

He also added that the health welfare week will increase employees self esteem.

Some of the major check-ups done are weight and body mass index, blood pressure, blood sugar level, cancer screening, bones strength and HIV.

The workers are then referred to the Eldoret town District Hospital for drugs, or referred to a nutritionist who advises them on healthy living.
