Uasin Gishu County government has declared war on those selling hard drugs after a huge consignment of Mandrax was seized at the Eldoret International Airport on Friday.
Speaking to the press at the Airport on Saturday, Deputy governor Daniel Chemno said those who will be found engaging in the illegal business will face the full force of the law.
“As a government, we are saddened that such a consignment of 80,000 pieces of Mandarax could have found its way to our County. We have widened our net and such individuals involved in this unscrupulous business will be brought to book,” said Chemno.
“Let me state clearly that Uasin Gishu is not a place of drug trafficking, we cannot allow thousands of youths lives to be destroyed because of some few self-centered individuals, we will deal with them ruthlessly,” he added.
The Deputy Governor reiterated that they will not allow the airport to be misused by drug traffickers and ut on notice government officials that might be colluding with the criminals..
“Those officials at the airport and Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) officers who are involved should be brought to book since they know what transpired,” he noted.
Chemno called upon the security personnel at the airport to ensure sensitive areas, especially where cargos are stored re well secures to cut-out individuals involved in contraband goods.
