Uasin Gishu County Deputy Governor Daniel Chemno has urged the national government through the Ministry of Interior to replace police officers who have died, retired from office or transferred with immediate effect.
Chemno said the move would enhance security in the county.
He said the county has a shortage of police officers leading to the rise of insecurity cases since the few officers cannot offer adequate security to all residents.
"There are some officers who have died or have been transferred to other places and yet for the last three years they haven't been replaced, making it difficult to protect all Uasin Gishu County residents," he said.
He said the national government through the Ministry of Interior should come up with a framework to ensure that all police recruits who graduate replace the transferred, retired and those who have died.
"They should ensure that police officers are distributed equally in the 47 counties since no part of the country is more important than the other," he said.
He however urged wananchi to be their brothers' keeper by embracing Nyumba Kumi initiative and reporting any person with questionable character to the police.
