Uasin Gishu deputy governor Daniel Chemno has welcomed the Kenya National Union of Nurses (Knun) officials for dialogue to iron out issues affecting nurses in the county.
Among the issues is the permanent employment of 80 Economic Stimulus Program (ESP) nurses.
Speaking in his office on Thursday, Chemno said the county government was ready to embrace dialogue and ensure that all challenges that nurses are facing are resolved once and for all to enhance service delivery to the public.
“A problem is best solved through a face to face encounter and not through washing our dirty linen through the media, nurses are our employees and we won't let them suffer,” he said
He said they were aware of the challenges that the health sector in the county faces but they are trying to figure out on possible solutions to ensure that the nurses are paid well and work under good conditions.
“I want to urge the nurses union officials to come to our offices for dialogue on how the 80 Economic Stimulus Program (ESP) nurses will be employed and I believe through dialogue an amicable solution will be found,” he stated.
He said that they respect court orders and that they will implement them to the letter.
This comes after the Nakuru Industrial Court through Justice Stephen Radido ordered Uasin Gishu government two weeks ago to absorb and employ 80 Economic Stimulus Program (ESP) nurses on permanent and pensionable terms, backdating their salaries to February 2015 when their contracts elapsed.
