Uasin Gishu deputy Governor Daniel Chemno has urged religious leaders to comply with the new proposed laws meant to regulate churches.

Speaking in his office on Wednesday, Chemno said such laws will bring sanity to the religious sector which recently had been infiltrated by con men and women with the aim to siphon money from innocent Kenyans.

"Churches have been used by some preachers as businesses to get money instead of preaching the gospel. I don't see any problem with the laws. Why are their members not complaining on the same,"he said.

Chemno said churches have been infiltrated by con men instead of preachers whose aim is to leave the flock poor.

"Those laws will really protect faithful from pastors who start churches with the intention of enriching themselves by robbing desperate believers,"he said.

He urged clerics to abide by the laws saying they are not meant to harm the church.
