The petition tabled in the House by Nyota Ward MCA Njuguna Gichamu last year tasked the Assembly committee to investigate alleged grabbing of individual Land by powerful individuals after the 1992 Tribal Clashes in Chepakundi and Kapsita Elburgon.

“During the Committee sittings we managed to hear 30 residents of Chepakundi scheme and also managed to question a number of those named thus preparing a comprehensive report which according to the house standing orders can be discussed for not more than 20 Minutes but no amendments can be made on it since the powers of the Committee are similar to those of high court,” said Gichamu, who also doubles up as the committee Vice chair.

Gichamu said that once implemented, the Committee recommendations will be a sigh of relief to those affected.

According to Gichamu, during the hearings this year, several people among them former powerful politicians in the Moi government and the then provincial officers were mentioned.

Some of those mentioned in the Committee sittings also serve in the County Government of Nakuru.
