Pupils at Cheplaskei Primary School in Uasin gishu have a reason to smile, after Lake Victoria North Water Service board specially made water tanks in their institution.
The project was sponsored in a bid to provide clean water for students, to avoid outbreak of waterborne diseases such as cholera.
Speaking after commissioning of piped water on Friday, the chairman of Lake Victoria North Water Service Board Joseph Lagat said that everyone is entitled to clean water as per the constitutions.
“Every institution should have at least one collecting tank to store rain water, which will in turn be used during the dry season thus cases of shortages of water in institutions will be a thing of the past, and that we have distributed over 10 tanks to various learning institutions in Uasin Gishu county and urge well-wishers wishers to follow suit,” said Langat.
Lagat urged all learning institution to start a programme of planting trees, which will help fully in conserving the environment leading to attracting more rain and conserve the environment.
He advised public primary schools across the country to make it compulsory for class seven and eight to be boarders, which will help them compete fully with private schools and improve their performance.
The school principal, Wilson Rongei said that the students were having a hard time concentrating in their studies, since they were walking long distances in search of water.
“My students used to walk to Moiben River, which approximately six kilometres, which affected them in class, but now that we have been given the tank and pipe water, we will have no reason to perform poorly,” said Rongei.
The project, which cost a sum Sh2 million was sponsored by World Vision, CDF and well-wishers.
