A middle aged man on Tuesday morning survived mob justice narrowly in Gesima ward, Nyamira County after being caught stealing chicken by locals.
Following a tip from a passer by, angry locals besieged the man who was not immediately identified and frogmarched him in Gesima market.
With some locals ready to kill, good Samaritans contacted area Assistant County Commissioner Veronicah Wangui who rescued him.
"They caught him stealing chicken and beat him repeatedly. He has suffered injuries but still has to face justice," he said.
Wangui added: "As government, we still insist need to obey law and order. Locals should report such cases to police for action."
The suspect is believed to have originated from neighboring Bosamaro ward and is accused of unleashing terror in the region.
He was taken to Keroka Police for further interrogation by authorities and will later on be charged with robbery.
