An assistant chief has been arrested on suspicion that he failed to prevent recent community clashes in Esoit area Transmara, Narok county.

According to Trans Mara West police boss David Wambua, Kirindon assistant chief Nelson Napono Mutui was arrested after 8 people died following the community clashes.

Wambua said the security officers are investigating why one of the victims was killed outside the chief's doorstep and the administrator did nothing.

"The victim was killed right at the chief's doorstep yet he never came out of his house in an attempt to rescue the deceased from the attackers. The administrator could have calmed the youths and ask them to allow the law take its course," said the police boss.

Tension is high at Esoit.
