In a move that received a public uproar, Mr. Wilson Onserio on Tuesday said the route was temporarily out of bounds given deteriorating security in the region.

According to him, at least two people have been found dead in the route this year with the latest incident being last week when a badly mutilated body of a middle aged man was found dumped.

“This route will no longer be used past 7pm for security reasons. I repeat that because we are fond of violating orders and whoever thinks can do that will be arrested and face disciplinary charges,” he said.

“As you know, we have lost at least two people this year and a number of you have narrowly escaped death. Therefore, we cannot take chances over this perilous issue and that is why it is necessary to respect the order,” he added.

However, the move was not received well by a section of area residents who asked the chief to instead liaise with the government to improve security in the region.

“We are disgusted by those strong words from a government official. He should not be warning and instead he should work with the government to ensure sanity is restored in this place,” said Ezra Nyangweso who spoke on behalf of residents.
