Maji Tamu location chief, Nakuru County, is nursing serious injuries at the Nakuru County hospital after he was allegedly attacked by a group of brewers during an operation to crack down on the illegal drinks.
The Sunday incident left the chief with bodily injuries, torn uniform and his official stick stolen by his attackers.
“The chief was conducting an operation when he was reportedly shot and injured. The chief is said to have been humiliated in public,” Joe Ngugi said.
It is not yet clear why the culprits decided to humiliate the chief when in his official duty wearing a government crown. The area is said to be bedevilled by illicit drinks brewing which has led to young people indulging in a drinking spree.
Efforts to reach the chief at the hospital were futile. Nakuru County commissioner Joshua Nkanatha condemned the incident.
He said all those involved will face the rule of law.
