The national government has been urged to help redeem the image of Moi's Bridge Railway station which is in a deplorable condition and a thieves den.

Speaking in his office on Monday, Moi’s Bridge assistant chief Omar Bilali said no one seems bothered about the sorry state of the railway station following its privatisation by the Kibaki regime.

He said grass has grown on the railway line which makes it difficult for the train to use.

It has now become a hiding den for thieves as the place has been outgrown by bushes and yet no one seems to take care and clear them, thus compromising security, he added.

“Since there is no proper management of the station, it has now become a security threat. It is now risky for people to pass via the station past 9pm since they may be robbed. I urge the Eldoret OCPD to help us by ensuring that we have enough patrol officers to curb the insecurity cases that are being witnessed in the area,” he said.

He added that the place is very insecure to the extent where some times women are raped at night.

The administrator urged the national and county governments to act with speed to save the situation.

When contacted, Eldoret West OCPD Smollets Munyanzi said he was not aware of the insecurity in the area but promised to work round the clock to ensure that the residents are safe
