Chief Bethwell Maina of Wanyororo B Location , Bahati Ward said that there was a need for residents to better the waste management of the area – especially along the river – in order to create a healthy environment.

Speaking yesterday at Wanyororo B during the cleaning of Wanyororo River, Maina called on the Nakuru county to adopt a comprehensive environment conservation policy.

“The Ministry of Environment, Energy, Water and Natural Resources should put in place measures to curb the deterioration of environment,” said Maina .

The administrator praised youth engagement in conservation of environment.

“Our youth have been instrumental in conservation of our environment by planting trees and solid waste collection services,” said Maina .

Cleaning of Wanyororo River is done regularly as it has been the spinal nerve in the lives of surrounding residents by providing water for domestic consumption.

The chief also warned the residents against polluting the river and called on the private sector to enhance the drive of conserving environment.

Maina said that the private sector could contribute by providing expertise and resources in promoting a healthy environment.

“The residents should keep this river clean to avoid chances of contracting diseases. We need support the private sector in our drive in the conservation of environment,” said Maina .

Over 200 locals comprising of women and the youth and women helped clean the river.
