Abdallah said that the move has worked in Kaptembwa and many people have shunned the selling and brewing of the illegal liquor.

Speaking during a public baraza in the area Abdalla said they are tired of playing hide and seek with the brewers. “The long term solution is to talk to the brewers.

We have been explaining to them the effects brewing has to our society. We have also incorporated the village elders who come and counsel them. This has automatically led to less brewing translating to less drinking,” said Abdalla.

The chief called on National Authority Campaign Aganist Drug Abuse (NACADA) to utilise the same means in the fight against the liquor.

“As an administration we tried everything including the frequent arrests but they did not work. Talking to them is what is helping,” said Abdalla.

He further pledged to take the war to schools, where by he will start a campaign in public primary school with the intention of controlling illicit brew.
