Speaking on Tuesday during a Baraza at the location following of a series of child kidnapping cases, Andrew Mwamba said parents have the prime responsibility of ensuring their young ones were safe at all times without waiting for the government to give security.

“It’s quite unfortunate that some of us are forgetting our prime duties. Child safety starts with all of us. As a parent, you must ensure that your children are under surveillance all times to ensure good safety for those infants,” he said.

According to the officer, the region has experienced rampant cases of abduction that targeted children under the age of seven.

“As you are aware, we have experienced mysterious disappearance of three children in separate incidents and till today, we have not managed to rescue them. We must remain vigilant as parents to ensure we get a remedy to the menace,” added Mwamba.

He asked parents to leave their children under the care of a trusted person whenever they are away, further calling for enrollment of children of over five years to baby classes.

“In case you are out for other functions, ensure you leave your child under the care of somebody. Older children should be taken to baby classes as soon as possible,” said the officer.

Mwamba warned non-compliant parents of unspecified consequences and promised government support to the affected families.

“We will deal with parents who will ignore our call. We are still in pursuit of kidnappers of the three children from different villages in my location. We must stand together to combat these predicament,” he said.
