Speaking on Friday during a Baraza that was precipitated by the recent demise of a school boy, area chief Francis Rasugu declared the place a black spot and suspended all activities near the place.

“We have lost many lives in this place and if my counting is right, about ten people have died from various accidents in this place. No one will be allowed to execute any activity in this area till all security issues are put in place,” he warned.

He accused the owner of leaving the place dangerously open hence becoming a deadly trap for people walking around especially at night.

“Why would someone leave a mining place open like this. It is quite difficult to walk along the path at night and that is why our people are dying,” he added.

He asked the owner to surrender himself to the authorities for further questioning failure to which they will hunt him and arraign him in court to face prosecution over murder.

“Before we come for the owner, it will be quite in order if he surrenders. Otherwise we will apprehend and arraign him in court to answer to murder charges,” he added.

Rasugu pleaded with parents to desist from allowing their children to graze or play near the site besides constituting a committee that will ensure precaution is taken.

Many of those who perished at the site are children who were either grazing or playing near the place with the most recent being that of 10year old boy who fell into the deep end and later succumbed to injuries at Nyamira Hospital on New Year’s Eve.
