Residents living in Wanyoro B have been asked to protect Wanyoro River and its ecosystem, a local administrator has said.
Chief Bethuel Maina of Wanyoro B said that the residents living near the banks of the river are polluting it.
“It has come to my attention that residents are polluting the Wanyoro River,” said the chief.
He said that the river should be preserved as it plays a vital role in the livelihoods of the residents.
“All water for our domestic usage comes from this river. So do not pollute it and strive to preserve the river for our health,” added the Chief.
In the recent times some residents have been swimming in the river, others cultivate along the banks, and others discharge chemicals to the river.
The Chief was today addressing the residents of Wanyoro B, in Bahati Constituency, Nakuru County, at the river‘s bank after leading a clean-up of the river where he urged the residents to do everything to preserve the it.
Maina said that he would set up a committee to monitor the operations of activities along the river.
“This river should be preserved for the benefit s of our current and future generations,” said the chief.
The administrator further warned those who will keep on polluting the river, would face the full force of the law.
“My administration will be on alert in preserving the river and will take actions to those who will not obey the orders,” said Maina.
Maina further thanked NEMA for showing great concern in the preservation of ecosystem in Wanyoro B.
