Residents watched a free wrestling match as the chief and the man identified as Mokua exchanged blows in public.

“Our chief is working around the clock to ensure no illicit trade is happening in the region but some individuals don’t want to venture into legal businesses. Mokua has always threatened Nyumba Kumi official but we are happy now that the chief engaged him in a fight and beat him up,” said a local John Miruka.

Miruka said it took the intervention of Nyumba Kumi officials and elders to stop the two from fighting.

The chief said he is not afraid of engaging in physical fights with locals who don’t want to adhere to the law.

“I am not scared of fist fighting with criminals. I must work to defend my job because if I am lazy, Matiang’i will sack me. It is time people should engage in legal businesses trade to avoid being in trouble,” he said.

He said the notorious illicit brewers led by Mokua will not be spared by the law.

The local administrator said Mokua is currently being held at Keumbu police station.
