Kariuki said that days are gone when the centralised system of governance was the order of the day.

“Since devolution was rolled out residents no longer get orders from National government; they have a say in the running of their projects of their own choice,” said Kariuki.

Speaking today at Kiamaina Shopping Centre during a public meeting, Kariuki said the residents are the ones who determine the fate of their development projects.

“With the launch of devolution, residents are entitled by the authority to decide on matters of health, water, education, security and other social initiatives,” said Kariuki.

Kariuki urged residents to actively participate in public forums and present their proposals to the county government to benefit from devolved resources.

The chief said that majority of residents are unable to participate in key county developments including knowing how devolved resources are spent due to giving no interest to chiefs meetings.

“Some residents don't know the name of their chief leave alone knowing what goes on in the location due to ignorance,” said Kariuki.

Kariuki urged the residents to regularly participate in county budgeting and planning process to know how their resources are utilize and criticise their county whenever possible.

The chief said that devolved units were created for the public to participate in development.
