Ikinu Location chief Amos Kamau has lauded local youths for starting good economic activities and ensuring their progress in the area.
Speaking on Monday at Ikinu Trading Centre during the launch of Ikinu Car Wash project, Kamau said that local youth have realised the need of economic growth by initiating an income generating project.
“I commend Ikinu youth for being in the forefront of economic activities in the area, “said the chief.
The car wash project brings together more than 20 youth who have pooled their resources together to start an income generating activity.
The administrator urged the youth to be self-reliant in their endeavours and desist from the ‘kitu kidogo’ mentality which politicians use to exploit them at the expense of creating employment.
“Days of hand-outs from politicians are gone. Be self-reliant,” he advised.
He added that the era of white collar jobs is slowly diminishing and that the youth should strive to be innovative to generate income.
“Jobs in offices are no more. The only solution to unemployment is to form projects that will generate income,” said the chief.
Ezekiel Mwangi, the chairman of the project, said that the project has tackled the challenge of unemployment among the youth.
“Ikinu Car Wash will provide a long term solution to our youth,” said Mwangi.
