Kathiani central ward chief Kyeni has today March 21, 2016, rescued man from furious residents.
The man was accused of allegedly breaking into one of Ithaeni residents house and stealing 90 kilograms sack of maize which he had already hidden in a nearby bush before one of the residents raised an alarm.
According to Kyeni, the man has been a threat to residents for some months.
"One of the residents tipped us that they had caught up with someone stealing from the neighbours house and angry residents had already descended on him.
I immediately took action and arrived at the scene before it was too late with some police officers and managed to rescue him," said Kyeni.
He urged residents to avoid taking the law into their hands but instead to be handing them to police which is acceptable by law.
The owner of the house in which the man had broken into thanked chief and police officers for their quick response.
The suspect was taken to Kathiani police station where he is being detained as he awaits to be arraigned in court.
