A chief in Kisumu on Saturday saved a man said to have stolen a DVD player from a mob that wanted to lynch him.
Reporsts indicate that Konya chief Alphonse Otieno grabbed the man from a group of youth who had lit a car tire ready to burn him.
The suspected thief, Michael Omondi is alleged to have entered his neighbor's house and stole the DVD player on Friday night.
He denied the allegations after which a search was conducted in his house and indeed the DVD machine was recovered. He ran for his life but was unfortunately cornered and arrested.
The rowdy youth lit a vehicle tire ready to burn him, but he was rescued by the area chief who arrived at the incident scene while on his way home.
"The chief grabbed and wrestled him to the ground. They were determined to end his life. If it were not for the chief he would no more," one of the witnesses was quoted by Radio Jambo.
Nyumba Kumi members who were in the neighborhood came after hearing screams and helped the chief take the suspect to his office from where police picked him.
