Menengai Location Chief Mary Kamau has summoned members of the Teachers Estate Council of Elders over their recent remarks concerning security in the area. Speaking to HiviSasa.com on Friday, the chief said the elders were deliberately inciting residents to take the law into their own hands by lynching suspected criminals while claiming that local security agents were sleeping on their jobs and abetting crime. The chief said that her office is surprised by remarks by the chairman of security committee of the council Paul Ogega warning suspected criminals that their days were numbered as residents would round them up and lynch them since they were colluding with security agents to terrorise residents. "In a recent security meeting we had agreed to work together to curb crime by them volunteering information to security agents. So far there is a lot of progress as many suspects have been arrested and illegal alcohol selling joints where criminals hide destroyed and perpetrators arrested,” said the chief. The council of elders have accused local security agents of soliciting for bribes from suspects, a fact that reportedly made the suspects have a field day. The elders recently threatened to mobilise residents to lynch suspected criminals in Teachers estate.
