A local chief in Kisii has refuted claims that he has been harassing and using force when cracking down illicit liquor.
Bomariba Sub location assistant chief Benjamin Ayuma on Friday, speaking in his office, said some locals are out to taint his name due to his good work.
“I will not succumb to false allegations. Some locals who are not happy with my work are advised to relocate from the sub location or adhere to the laws of the land and stop making and selling chang’aa,” he said.
According to Ayuma, he has never harassed locals.
“We are government officers deep in the village and we have been ordered to crackdown and arrest illicit brew makers and sellers.
I am not mad to harass or use force on someone who doesn’t engage in the illegal business. Those who have been arrested are the illicit brew makers and sellers well known in Bomariba,” he said.
The local administrator accused residents of Miranga village for refusing to stop making and selling chang’aa.
