Kariuki's remarks come in the wake of Garissa attack that claimed the lives of 147 students by Somalia militants, Al Shabaab.

Speaking today, Wednesday at Kiamaina play ground, Bahati Ward, Nakuru County during a security meeting, Kariuki said that the Nyumba Kumi initiative would help in containing the incidences of rising insecurities especially the menace of insurgents in the country.

“Residents are in better positions to detect criminals who live among them and it is for this reason we have urged residents to support the initiative,” said Kariuki.

The chief urged the residents to report any person whom they suspect as a fugitive.

“Members of public should report anybody they suspect being a member of Al -Shabaab to my office or police so that swift action can be taken against him,” added Kariuki.

The administrator said that the presence of Nyumba Kumi at grass root level would effectively aid in the war against terrorism.

“Everyone should know his / her neighbour in and out to help in flushing out criminals living amongst us,” he added.

The chief also urged the government to provide all schools with armed and qualified personnel.

“It is clear that the terrorists are aiming at soft targets like defenseless schools, and the government should give enough protections to schools by providing experienced manpower,” said Kariuki.

He further said that the senseless brutality matted at Garissa University College students could have been avoided if the government had provided the institution with armed guards.
