Kiamaina area Chief Peter Kariuki has called on youths who will not be absorbed in secondary schools to join local public youth Polytechnics to acquire skills.
Speaking at Kiamaina shopping centre during a public meeting on Friday, Chief Kariuki acknowledged that not all pupils will be absorbed in secondary schools adding that there is need for parents to enrol the youth in local polytechnics.
He said that there are quite a number of polytechnics in the area, which according to hime parents from the area should take advantage of the presence of such institutions within their vicinity to further their children’s education in case they do not get a chance in secondary schools.
Some of the notable local youth Polytechnics in the county with tailor made -products are Subukia, Dundori, Nakuru, and Komboni youth Polytechnics. The administrator said that keeping the youth at home would doom their lives and create room for crimes.
“Parents whose children will not make it to secondary schools should enrol them to local youth Polytechnics to ensure that they acquire the pre-requisite skills to enable them support themselves,” said Kariuki.
Kariuki noted that with youth involvement in income-generating activities, level of criminal activities would greatly be reduced.
“Allowing youth to participate in the development of the county will make crimes to drop,” said Kariuki adding that parents should however make every effort to make sure that their children sail through secondary education.
“I urge parents to sacrifice themselves to ensure your children get secondary education,” said Kariuki.
The administrator said that the level of crime at Kiamaina slums has dropped due to parents’ willingness to take their children to school following the free education launched by the government.
