Parents in Maseno who are still keeping children at home instead of taking them to school have been warned of dire consequences.
Area chief Nicholas Toro said despite the teachers’ strike having been called off, some parents were still keeping their children at home to assist in household chores.
"Right now all children should be in school; however it has come to the attention of my office that all children are not in school. They are being kept at home by their parents. If found, the law will take its course," said Toro.
The chief who was speaking at a baraza on Wednesday said he had identified a number of children and their respective parents.
He gave them until Friday to report to their respective schools.
"It is ironic that parents were complaining about the cost of keeping children at home during the strike. Now that it is over, you don’t want to take them to school," added Toro.
He said the most affected were primary school children.
He said it is the right of every child to have access to education as it is a fundamental need which should not be exploited.
He also called on school heads to put in place punitive measures for such parents, considering that third term is short and vital.
