Parents of Rurii Location in Nakuru North Sub-County have been urged to be vigilant of the whereabouts of their children at all times.

This, following reports that some youths from the sub-county have been duped and joined the rag tag Al-Shabaab terror group.

Area chief Mary Kamau has said if the children disappear and the parents do not report to the police, they will be considered as terrorist sympathisers if the children happen to join the terror group.

Speaking to parents of Workers estate on Tuesday, the chief also urged the parents to embrace the Nyumba Kumi initiative as a way of curbing crime in the area.

“Some young people who have been recruited to join the terror group are hiding in this area. Make sure you know your neighbour and report any suspicious persons immediately. If you remain silent, you will equally suffer,” Kamau said.

She added that the residents will be trained on how the Nyumba Kumi programme works and, already, there is a group of people going around the estate enlightening residents about it.

The chief also assured the parents that any information given to the police will be treated with confidentiality.

“Embrace this initiative by knowing one another and any report you give to security officers will be kept secret. But, be warned that when you go out public revealing the information that you have given to police, you will be on your own,” the chief added.
