Kikuyu OCPD Matune Maweu has called on local chiefs in the sub county to intensify the fight against illicit brews and arrest brewers and sellers.

Speaking to the press at Kikuyu town on Sunday, the OCPD raised concern over the re-emergence of illicit brewing dens.

He said cases of illicit brewing have been reported in some parts of the area but vowed to crack the whip on brewers and sellers.

“It is unfortunate that after months of crack down on illicit brewing some people have started making and selling brews,” he said, warning that brewers will be dealt with accordingly.

Mr Maweu called on local chiefs to hunt down illicit brewers and ensure that their areas are free of illegal brews and second generation alcoholic drinks.

He assured chiefs of support in the fight against illicit brews which he said has destroyed many lives and families.

He also urged locals to report people suspected to be brewing illicit alcohol.

"Members of the public must support our efforts aimed at fighting alcoholism by providing information on the whereabouts of brewers," he said.

He said that collective responsibility is required in order to effectively tame illicit brewing in the area.
