Nakuru County commissioner Mohammed Birik has asked chiefs and their assistants to work with the youths in order to stem out instances of crime.
The commissioner said that youths should be involved in activities that will keep them away from crime.
He said that most young people are falling into crime because they are idle and that engaging them in development will help them acquire skills that will be beneficial to themselves and the society.
“I want to ask Chiefs and their assistants across the country to work with the young people even as they seek to maintain law and order,” he said.
The commissioner urged young people across the country to come out and seek support from government agencies. He said that the government has lined various opportunities for youths and asked them to take advantage and improve their lives.
The commissioner reiterated that stern action will be taken against youths who engage in criminal activities.
“The law is very clear on criminals, we will not have mercy on the,” he added.
Meanwhile, Birik has assured teachers and candidates that security will remain high as national examination start next week.
He said that appropriate measures have been put in place to ensure peace and order as Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) and the Kenya Primary School Education (KCPE) candidates prepare for the national examination that starts this month and early next month.
